Food For Thought

On the Food For Thought Table this Sunday an article from The Wall Street Journal on Holy Saturday, “The Challenge of Easter,” by Fr. James Martin SJ.  Fr. Martin is known to several of us in the parish who have read his books in Emmaus Road.   The books of his we’ve read are:  The Jesuit Guide to Everything,  My Life with the Saints, and Jesus, A Pilgrimage.   Fr. Martin explores the meaning of Easter, and says, “Whether you’re a believer or not, there is no way to ignore the radical claim of the Resurrection.   http://on.wsj.com/1RGuTRj

Also to help us grapple with the Resurrection, attached to By Way of Reminder, are all the texts in the New Testament that describe the Easter experience.  We get our understanding of the Resurrection not from one account, but from many.  In encountering them all, we come to know.

Level 4

Fr. Bob will resume his meeting with the “Level 4” young people on Sunday between the services.  We’ve been exploring character strengths and virtues, reflecting on these qualities that we observe in others, and desire for ourselves.  At out last meeting on the 5th Sunday of Lent we looked at Courage and its manifestations as Bravery, Persistence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Vitality, and Humanity with its manifestations of Love, Kindness, Generosity, Nurturance, Care, Compassion, and Altruism, and Social Intelligence.

Sunday we push on.  The next three Character Strengths will be Justice, Temperance, and we will finish (at some point) with Transcendence.

Emmaus Road

Emmaus Road resumes it’s reading of  Marilynne Robinson’s book, The Giveness of Things, on Monday, April 4.  , in the Parish Hall Living Room.  Anyone is welcome to join in.  The book is readily available at Vroman’s in Pasadena.  For Monday April 4,  we will read chapter 9,
