Das Boot:
Working on “The Boat” that is Church of the Angels
To work on the boat this week, we needed the help of our genius handyman, Baldo, a person who can fix anything. Some years ago he did some work for one of the parishioners who said to him, “Baldo, around Church of the Angels you are Fourth Person of the Trinity!
We needed to fix the driveway from the damage caused by the recent rains. This is something we need to do every year. The fence along Church Street had several damaged and rotted posts. And Finally part of the Parish Hall Porch was caving in due to water damage and termites. Here’s some pictures of the repairs. Thanks Baldo!
Food For Thought
On the Food for Thought Table this Sunday an article from The New York Times columnist David Brooks, and a special attachment at the back. The article is titled “The Choice Explosion,” and it talks about the vast number of choices we have to make and the problem involved in making choices that are good and valuable.
Last week’s article “Why Luck Matters More than You Think,” led us to think about the unpredictable, uncontrollable, incalculable nature of grace. This week’s article on choice can lead us to think of a Christian word, “discernment.” This is about seeking God’s direction in the choices we have to make day by day, big and small. So to help with that, we’re attaching to the back of David Brooks article a text from The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, called, “The First Principle and Foundation. It speaks of our making use of those things that assist us in attaining the end which God desires for us, and avoiding those things that impede that. “Our one choice should be, “What better leads to God’s deepening his life in me?” So some secular and sacred and how they go together.
Things That Are Coming Up
A Gathering for people preparing for marriage

They can also pick Rebecca’s brain. They can also pick Fr. Bob’s brain, but he’ll only refer them to Rebecca! Finally, Bill and Rebecca will discuss finances as in how to both organize them (Bill) and probably most important, talk about them with your spouse, (Rebecca) More as we get closer to the event.
